One of my projects this past semester was to research a part of the Pentateuch (the first 5 books of the Bible) and to write a paper based on the original Hebrew. For the paper I chose to research Exodus 22:21-24. Instead of letting all that research just sit on my computer I thought I could summarize my paper and give this community a better understanding of these few short verses.
I write this with only having two assignments of the semester left. Only a few more days before I can say the semester is COMPLETE! As I sit in the seminary building I just began to drift from all the assignments I have to write and began to think about this site/ministry and the hope I have for the future of it. One of my final assignments even gave me space to think about how to do all of this well.
In our culture, it is very easy to be sucked into the game of rising to the top. There always has to be a next step, a promotion, or pay raise. This is true in ministry fields too so, don’t think your church and pastors aren’t feeling this same pressure. But maybe this way of thinking about work and success isn’t the way it is meant to be.
