One of the best ways to figure out purpose is to understand who created you and why. I believe that there is a divine creator. God created humanity, He created me and He created you. The best way to learn about Him and our relationship to him is by reading the Bible. So this post is just a few beginner steps of how to begin reading the Bible.
Step One: Find a Bible
Start by finding your Bible. This might mean dusting off your Bible thats been sitting on a shelf since Christmas of 1999 or it could mean simply logging on to the internet and searching for a Bible. A few good sites to find a Bible are
Pick a translation you can understand. There are many debates about which translation to choose and which is the most accurate. The truth is every translation is going to be as close to the original as they could make it. That being said here are a few that I think are the easiest to read and most accurate.
ESV (English Standard Version) - NIV (New International Version) - NLT (New Living Translation)
Step Three: Start Reading
Start reading. This is the most intimidating step. Where to start is a big question, but my suggestion is start in the New Testament. Find the book of John and then James. These are great places to start. It gives you the story of Jesus and some practical ways to live your new life.
Step Four: Let it Change Your Life
The last step is the most important. It is to allow God to use what you read. You begin by learning what the Bible says, but eventually you have to grow from what you read. The Bible is meant to change you not just be read as an interesting story or history book. When you allow God’s word to change you, you will begin to understand your purpose.
So with a few basic steps you can now start reading the Bible (hopefully with a bit less confusion). Let what you read change you and soon you can begin to live life with purpose.
